Episode Summary
The episode opens with Pete walking with Nigel and Isaac, helping them plan their honeymoon after their wedding. Pete, being the experienced travel agent he is, is taking them around the property, when they get to the edge of the property line where the ghost boundary is. While saying that he believes he can get them into the most exclusive suite on the property, Sam and Jay’s room, a bee comes buzzing and flying close to him. Pete starts swatting at it– despite bugs being able to fly through ghosts– to try to redirect it to leave him alone, but to no avail. The bee finally leaves, while Pete has crossed the ghost boundary without being bounced back. Isaac tells Pete that he has crossed the ghost boundary. Shocked, Pete questions if the ghost boundary changed, to which Isaac tests the theory, but is bounced back. The realization sets in that Pete’s ghost power is not being geographically bound.
In the kitchen, Sam reacts to Pete’s ghost power, calling it amazing, while Trevor questions why Pete never tried to leave the property. Pete, being the rule follower that he is, explained that when he died, he was told he couldn’t leave, so he never tried to. The rest of the ghosts try to talk him into going out and exploring, but Pete is hesitant, and expresses that he doesn’t want to leave and that he’s comfortable. Jay then walks in telling Sam he’s going to run some errands, when Sam updates him that Pete has discovered his ghost power. Sam suggests that Pete could go to Deal Mart with Jay, to start him out small with venturing out.
Upstairs in Thor and Trevor’s room, Thor and Flower are seen cuddling while Trevor, Hetty, and Alberta sit with them. Thor and Flower have finally been reunited after Flower was rescued from the well. Flower gets up to leave, leaving Thor, Trevor, Hetty, and Alberta in the room. Thor sighs deeply, looking conflicted. While Flower was away, he found comfort in Nancy both physically and sexually. He wasn’t sure how or if to tell Flower. Alberta urged him to tell Flower, while Trevor told him to deny everything.
As Jay and Pete walk into Deal Mart, Jay is telling Pete about the store. It’s a huge superstore with bulk items. While walking through the store, Jay is telling Pete about how stores have changed since his time, while to other patrons, it seems like Jay is just talking to himself. He says he’s just on bluetooth, and then says he feels like Sam. While walking, Pete sees the different razors in an aisle and walks up, surprised that they now have up to six blades in one razor. Jay is unaware that Pete isn’t following him, and continues to shop. Two ghosts who died during Black Friday in 2005 walk up to Pete, asking if he is a ghost as well. They seem confused as to how he’s there, as they haven’t seen any paramedics, so Pete explains that he just found out his ghost power is that he’s not bound to any property. After brief introductions, Pete goes to try to find Jay, who could be anywhere in the store by now.
Back at the mansion, Thor sits with Flower to try to tell her that while she was in the well, he slept with Nancy. Before he could begin, Flower starts talking about how when she was trapped, it was cold and dark, and she felt so alone. The thing that gave her strength was knowing that Thor wouldn’t give up on her, and as soon as she got out, they could resume their relationship. After hearing Flower say this, Thor couldn’t bring himself to tell her, and just said that Jay made cheesecake last Tuesday.
Jay arrives home, unbeknownst to him, without Pete. Sasappis and Isaac stand outside realizing that Jay has lost Pete. Inside, the ghosts are all panicking wondering how Jay lost Pete. Sam, attempting to make everyone not panic, suggests that they retrace Jay’s steps and go back to Deal Mart to find Pete. Jay reveals that he actually went to multiple places, a gas station, a comic book store, and two separate Sonics.
Back at Deal Mart, Pete is worrying about it being almost time to smell dinner, and nobody has come back for him. The store then closes, and the overhead lights all turn off. According to Gloria, one of the Deal Mart ghosts Pete met earlier, the store turns completely different. A group of other ghosts come forward, one being a butcher with a meat cleaver in his head. The group starts walking towards Pete while chanting, “New fish.” repeatedly. Gloria tells Pete to run and she’ll block them.
Thor goes down to the basement to talk to Nancy about keeping their fling underwraps. To Thor, it meant nothing, but this does hurt Nancy’s feelings. Nancy says that in order for her to stay silent, it will cost him. She is blackmailing him.
Pete has now escaped Deal Mart and is out in the streets at night. He tries to figure out where he is, as he grew up in the town, but the street names have changed to names of two people he has no idea who they are, Barack Obama and Eil Manning. Freaking out, Pete then sees a food delivery robot, and starts running away screaming.
Back at the mansion, Trevor, Isaac, Flower, Thor, and Nancy gather to watch T.V.. It’s Thor’s turn to pick what they watch. Instead of watching an episode of Vikings, Thor says he wants to watch This Old House to appease Nancy. There’s an episode that specifically talks about water heaters that he suggests they all watch. Nancy is in agreement, but wishes she had a seat, urging Thor to offer his seat to her. Isaac questions why he’s being so nice to a basement dweller, to which Thor responds that he is nice, and that it’s the main thing about himself. Flower immediately questions him, saying that he mainly talks about beheading and disemboweling people.
Sam and Jay arrive from attempting to find Pete, with no success. Alberta asks if they searched everywhere. Sam says that they went to all of the locations Jay previously visited during the day, including a previously undisclosed Sonic. Jay apologizes once again for losing Pete, even though he can’t see him. Pete then walks through the door, upset. Hetty, Alberta, and Sasappis go to welcome him, and Pete says to leave him alone. He didn’t want to go out and venture, but he felt like they all bullied him into leaving. Sasappis mentions that on the bright side, he made it back to the house. Pete says he barely made it back and that they have no idea what he went through. He said it was the worst night of his life.
To try to get Pete to talk to them again, Sam and Jay lay down a scent trap by making s’mores, Pete’s favorite treat. It works, although Pete is still upset. Alberta asks what happened to him out there. Pete explains that Deal Mart after dark is very different than it is during the day, and that he almost had to fight off a butcher with a meat cleaver in his head if it weren’t for Gloria. He found himself alone and scared in the streets, and then being chased by “some sort of droid that smelled like burritos”. Hetty asked how he made it home and Pete explained that he remembers from his alive days that there was a bus station at the north end of town, so he used the stars to guide him there. He then mapped out a bus route with the fewest transfers and lowest fares. Hetty helped him realize that he used his scouting and travel agent skills to help get himself home, two things that seemed worthless up until this point. Sam points out that while he was scared, nobody else could have done what he did. Sasappis points out that there may be a reason he was given this power, he was a travel agent that never traveled anywhere, so this was his opportunity to go out and explore.
Upstairs, Thor brings Nancy into the room with Flower, saying that he needs to tell Flower something, and that he needs Nancy to hear it as well. Thor explains that while Flower was in the well, he found solace in Nancy, both physically and sexually. Nancy nervously asks Thor what he’s doing. Thor is taking back power from Nancy’s blackmailing. Flower seems cool, and doesn’t mind what happened, as Thor did think she was gone forever and that she’s glad that he was sexually sated, and thanks Nancy. Both Thor and Nancy are relieved from Flower’s reaction. Thor then says that it was completely meaningless to both him and Nancy, to which Nancy expressed that to her, it wasn’t completely meaningless. She said that while she’s happy Flower was rescued, she was having fun with Thor and felt hurt that he asked her to act like it never happened. Flower was disappointed in Thor for saying that to Nancy and causing her to feel that way. Thor then apologizes, as he believes apologies solve everything with no consequence. Flower shakes her head and says that she doesn’t think so. Thor asks what this means for him and Flower, to which Flower responds that she has to think about it and walks out the room.
The next day, Sam and Jay send Pete off to Saint Lucia to see his family. Jay arrives back from the airport, saying that he stopped the car for a bit and waited, and he’s pretty sure that Pete got out. Sam said that it felt like sending a kid off to college. Jay commented that it felt empty without him in the house, as the scene cuts to Isaac, Alberta, and Sasappis talking over each other, each needing something from Sam. The scene then cuts to Pete in the boarding line at the airport, getting on the plane to Saint Lucia.
The final scene cuts to Flower and Nancy walking into Thor and Trevor’s room where Thor, Trevor, and Alberta are all watching TV. Flower says that she has a proposal; she, Thor, and Nancy form a throuple. Thor asks if being a two-person thing is an option, to which Flower responds that it is not currently on the table. Thor, not wanting to lose Flower, agrees to the throuple.
